Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy sits at the heart of Fire and Ice. This treatment has been proven to be effective for athletic recovery, muscle repair, and reduction of chronic pain. It has been used by patients suffering everything from fibromyalgia to sports injuries. By using cold therapy to reduce blood flow to a specific area, inflammation and swelling are reduced, leading to faster recovery. There is a long list of benefits from Cryotherapy treatments, and it is one of our most performed treatments at Fire and Ice Med Spa in Cookeville, TN.

Some of the uses and benefits of Cryotherapy include:

Athletic Recovery & Performance

Anti-Aging & Beauty

Health & Pain Management

Whole Body Cryotherapy is a fast and healthy process that accelerates the body’s natural recovery process while improving overall well-being and energizing the body as a whole. WBC is a non-invasive, hyper-cooling process that lowers a person’s skin temperature to approximately 30ºF during a session of up to three minutes (180 seconds).

Cryotherapy uses liquid nitrogen to cool the chamber, but clients are not in direct contact with the gas. The body is enveloped by -220ºF (-140ºC) air. As a result of the rapid drop in skin temperature, your body draws your blood to your core to regulate body temperature. When you exit the chamber, blood is pumped vigorously around the body as it returns to your extremities, enhancing oxygen supply and removing toxins. The cold also triggers the nervous system to release feel-good endorphins.

Cryotherapy, also called cold therapy, works by reducing blood flow to a particular area. This can lead to a significant reduction of inflammation and swelling that causes pain around joints or tendons. It may temporarily reduce nerve activity which can relieve pain in some cases, as well!
During Cryotherapy, the whole body is exposed to subzero temperatures to promote healing and reduce pain while boosting the metabolic rate.
Results vary depending on several factors, but you may begin to see results from Cryotherapy within three to five consecutive treatment sessions. We often recommend implementing this incredibly beneficial therapy into your weekly routines.
